The most distinguishable trait is the group of polyamorous females and/or males who accompany the protagonist; in some instances cohabitate with the protagonist. While intimacy is just about customary, it is never necessary.
Additionally, it is not essential for there to be one exclusive boy or girl. Because of different situations and plot devices in the story the protagonist normally end up discovering hidden aspects which make females and/or males within the “harem” more attractive while highlighting interesting aspects of their personalities, usually because of said protagonist’s kindness, courage and the will to protect/support their friends or the world. These protagonists usually end up with a harem accidentally, because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time due to some unforeseeable circumstance or random chance. Most protagonists don’t even want the harems they start, as they mostly only have one main love interest and all other members of their harem simply fall in love with him or her because they deeply admire some part of their personality, and the protagonist can’t bring themselves to tell them to leave. The person of desire winds up with none of these characters. Other series have a route where the story concludes with a multi-marriage ending. Such elements are labeled by publishers as harem. Archived from the original on 2008-01-05. For a powerful supernatural trilogy fraught with emotion, heed the call. Apparently there is only a limited amount of life force to go around, and humans and dolls (or their makers) compete for it; therefore, if you want to bring a doll to life, you must kill a human. Overall, however, the collection is effectively spooky—enough to make one wonder whether having a doll collection in one’s bedroom (or that of one’s child) is really a good idea. Many of them stayed with me for weeks after reading.
So many interesting short stories with only 2 or 3 that were just ok and the rest were brilliant. The short stories took forever to capture my attention.
You either like them or they creep you out on some level. Miniature humans in plastic or porcelain, they have a place in just about everyone’s lives. At some point in your life, you probably owned a doll, whether it was some collectible item you put on a shelf and admired from afar, or a hand-sewn ragdoll that was loved to death over the years. They’ve touched us, as individuals and as a culture. The doll possessed by a malicious ghost demon or that steals the soul of is owner or some such cliché. When you give people a limitation in what they can write, it forces a stretch of the imagination, forces one to think outside the box, and you can get some wonderful creative and varied stories as a result. Every story may involve dolls, to a greater or smaller degree, but that’s the only thing that connects them besides a general feel of the supernatural or macabre. There’s very little to be disappointed by and so many things to impress you, whether you’re a fan of dark fiction, the supernatural, or just damn good stories. Datlow worked wonders with this idea and the selection of submitted stories, and the authors pulled out all the stops to make this a fantastic collection. Highly recommended for those nights when the rain is pouring, the wind is howling, and you want a little more tingle in your spine. All the songs here are fun to listen to and several ones have some good humor to them. The band has concentrated on the swing of the 1940s and 1950s, playing clubs and lounges in their early years. Tracks vary from the sounds of a small jazz combo to big band music and a large dixiland jazz band. So often now you don’t hear musicians who put real effort into their playing. The lyrics are uplifting, and beats make you want to dance and if you can’t you still tap your toes with joy.
I like their music so yes this is a bias review.
